Drakkars were quite large vessels, capable of both ocean and river navigation. They were equipped with a very large sail. Drakkars were expensive ships, usually belonged to tribal chiefs, and their function was most often a flag or representative function
A feature that distinguished these ships were sculptures of dragon heads attached to the bow of the ship in order to scare the gods who, according to the beliefs, who looked after the cities that were attacked by the Vikings. After the ship returned to the port, these sculptures were usually removed by the Vikings until the next expedition.
Our ship is also equipped with such a dragon head, very accurately reproduced. The name of the drakkar ship was probably derived from the dragon.

Drakkar - the largest of all Viking ships. The largest of these ships was documented about 45 meters in length and had 34 pairs of oars. Probably, however, there may have been larger ships - holding up to 120 rowers. According to Scandinavian legends, such a huge ship was owned by the Danish king Canute I the Great. Most often, however, the Drakkar used to include units with at least 60 oars. The most famous drakkar was reconstructed in 1881 in Norway. This drakkar is 25 meters long and 5 meters wide.
